This set of 19th-century French plates are among John Derian's trove of handpicked vintage & antique goods. These antique Sarreguemines “assiette parlante” (talking plates) feature a blue-and-white transferware design and were both decorative and educational. Popular in 19th‑century France, these plates often told stories, depicted rebuses (pictorial puzzles that engaged the viewer), or illustrated moral lessons.
