Rautis, located in Poniklá in the Czech Republic, is one of the last remaining companies preserving and developing the traditional craft of glass bead blowing. This art form, which began in the late 19th century, once sustained entire families in the region. The process has remained mostly the same for more than a century... beads are still blown through glass tubes, silvered, colored, cut, and assembled entirely by hand, with each bead passing through at least six pairs of hands before becoming part of an ornament.
