Custom Indigo Bedcover
John Derian’s latest bedcover collaboration with designer Jeanette Farrier is a thoughtful blend of past and present, inspired by a 1920s indigo patchwork ceremonial cloth from Ghana and reimagined using traditional Bengal weaving techniques.
Woven on simple handlooms called "Matha Tant", the fabric uses a basic tabby weave with natural, unbleached cotton for the warp and alternating unbleached and indigo-dyed cotton for the weft. By changing the weft shuttle, the weaver creates soft, shifting tones of indigo. The cloth is woven in 40-inch-wide panels, then cut, rearranged, and stitched to create the final bedcover.

Dry clean onlyAn avid collector of vintage fabrics and patterns, Jeanette Farrier, who had a long and celebrated career as a costume designer, has spent many years traveling from her London home to India to grow her trove. Now, with the help of the same women's collective in Mayurhat, India, who she's employed for over 15 years to transform her vintage cotton saris into a line of kantha pillows and blankets, Farrier is introducing a collection of quilted bedcovers with prints culled from her vast archives. The lovingly handmade bed covers are the ultimate modern heirloom.
